Chimay

Chimay is in Belgium, near the French border. Chimay is located in the southern tip of the province Hainaut. The municipality of Chimay consists of 14 villages.

Since the 1850s, the Trappist monks in Chimay have produced beer and cheeses to support their order. The beer (also named Chimay) has become one of the most well-loved beers and is known all over Belgium.

• In addition to the beer, the village has lent its name to four varieties of cheese. The Chimay à la bière (Chimay cheese flavoured with Chimay beer) is a particular and unique treat for cheese lovers.

• 🌍 Monastery of Abbey of Notre-Dame de Scourmont, Abbaye Notre Dame de Scourmont (a few kilometres south of the town), ☏ +32 60 21 05 11. This place continues to manufacture the most renowned of the Trappist beers from local water and ingredients. (updated Jan 2018)
