Playwrights' Studio Scotland is an independent writer-specific arts organisation in Scotland.[1][2]
History
The withdrawal of Scottish Arts Council funding from the Scottish Society of Playwrights in 1985 created a financial vacuum from which Playwrights' Studio Scotland eventually emerged in 2004 After years of campaigning led by Playwright Tom McGrath and the Traverse Theatre.
With majority funding from Creative Scotland they support writers of any experience.
They organise a diverse range of events, networking opportunities, and competitions.
Many of Scotland's biggest theatres, actors, and playwrights have come through their door over the years to share tips and tricks, and learn from the masters.
The Studio is responsible for delivering many elements of the MSc Playwriting programme at the University of Edinburgh, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's Masters degree in Classical and Contemporary Text.
