Charles Barugahare, (born 13 September 1972) is a Ugandan Financial advisor and Internal Auditor. He is the co-founder of the Retirement Life Hub [1][2] and the immediate past University Secretary of the Makerere University, the largest public university of Uganda. He served in that position from July 2015 to November 2020.

Education background

Charles studied primary at Nyakishojwa Primary School, O’level at Nyakishojwa Secondary School, and A’level at Old Kampala Senior Secondary School. He studied Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from Makerere University in 1998, Master of Business Administration at Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) in 2009, Doctor of Business Administration at Atlantic International University (AIU) in 2020.[3]

He is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA, 2004), Member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda, and Member IIA, Certificate in Administrative Law, at Law Development Centre-Kampala.

Notable as the University Secretary

As the University secretary, Barugahare Charles chaired the search committee for the Chancellor.[4] It is this committee that came up with Prof. Ezra Suruma, the current Chancellor

  • Board Member and Chairperson of the Audit and Risk Management Committee for Kiira Motors Corporation[5][6]
  • Board Member, Health Information Support Program (HISP), Uganda.
  • Former Honorary Treasurer and board member of the Trustees of The Aids Support Organisation (TASO).
  • Former Chairperson of the Audit and Risk Committee of the Board of Trustees of The Aids Support Organisation (TASO).
  • He served on the board of New Lung Institute[7]
  • He is an active Rotarian having served as the President of Rotary Club of Makerere.[8]

Awards

Dr. Charles Barugahare was awarded the Golden Jubilee Award from the President of the Republic of Uganda in 2018.[9]
