In-Season Tournament
This will be the first regular season where all the NBA teams will compete in a mid-season tournament setting due to the implementation of the 2023 NBA In-Season Tournament.[4][5] During the in-season tournament period, the Lakers will compete in Group A of the Western Conference, which will include the Memphis Grizzlies, the long-time rivaling Phoenix Suns, the Utah Jazz, and the Portland Trail Blazers. After a close 122–119 comeback win over the Suns in their first ever In-Season Tournament game, the Lakers provided more convincing wins over the Grizzlies, Trail Blazers, and Jazz, with all of those victories being won by at least 12 points. With the Lakers winning all four of their In-Season Tournament games, they advanced into the knockout tournament rounds of the In-Season Tournament in December. Not only that, but with their blowout wins over the Grizzlies and Jazz, the Lakers earned home-court advantage and will play against the Wild Card winner of the Western Conference, which became the Phoenix Suns from Group A, on December 5 at the Crypto.com Arena. This now became the third match between the two teams in the regular season, with the Lakers already beating the Suns twice beforehand, and it will also become both teams' 81st confirmed game of the regular season.
