            Budget lights
-
If you are on a limited budget, look for lights with a tripod mount like the SmallRig lights, as well as others like the Meike Y600/700 lights. Most budget lights use a tripod mount so a $10-15 tripod can be used rather than a light stand.

            Professional lights

If you get a good deal on these lights from a surplus sale (or have the budget), many of these work significantly better than "budget" lights. However, this comes at the price: you may pay significantly more, or they require a dedicated light stand if they do not mount to a standard tripod.

Place your light(s) on an angle that will minimize reflections. NOTE: While the tripod light will need frequent adjustment, the side light should be mounted where adjustment needs are minimized.

Install the light on the stand from a flat angle; these are adjusted on the light frame. Once mounted, make any final adjustments you want and "lock" the panel in place.
