Introduction

If you struggle to find jeans that fit perfectly on the waist, use this guide to alter the waist of jeans with a simple sewing method.

In step 4 of this guide, you will need to use a needle threader. For more detailed information on using a needle threader, follow the instructions on How to Use a Needle Threader.

Tools

Step 1

Put on the jeans and pinch the extra fabric at the centre back of the waistband.

Step 2

Mark both sides of the pinched fabric with chalk on the outside of the jeans.
You may do this step while wearing the jeans.

Step 3

Draw a diagonal line from each marked spot to the centre back seam.

Step 4

Pass the thread through the loop on the needle threader.
Pull the needle threader out of the eye of the needle and create a knot at the end.
Use a double thread or a thick thread for durability.

Step 5

Begin sewing from the inside out, starting beside the belt loop.
Bring the needle across the marked spot and sew it inside out.

Step 6

Move the needle horizontally, then insert and thread it through the fabric a short distance below the starting point.
Repeat this process until the thread reaches the centre back seam.
