Introduction

Use this guide to disconnect the trunk-mounted battery in your BMW E36. This procedure was done on a US 1997 M3.

Remove the battery cover by pressing in the retaining tab, and then gently lifting.

Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery by loosening the 13 mm nut securing the cable to the battery terminal.
Cover the negative terminal with insulating material.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
